In Chinese astrology, the Snake symbolises transformation, wisdom, intuition, and stripping away illusions. Think less glow up and more emotional Marie Kondo meets therapy session meets spiritual spring clean.
I felt this deeply in my own life.
2025 began with one of the hardest but most liberating decisions I have ever made. I ended a very toxic friendship that had been draining my energy, confidence, and self worth for years. It was not dramatic or cinematic. It was deeply uncomfortable and emotionally exhausting. It was absolutely necessary.
Walking away from that friendship felt like dropping a heavy backpack I had been carrying for years. Suddenly, I could breathe again. I felt lighter. Stronger. More myself.
That was only the beginning of the shedding.
The Lesson The Snake Forced Me To Face: People Pleasing
The Snake year held up a giant mirror and said we need to talk about your boundaries.
I have been a people pleaser for most of my life. It goes back to childhood bullying and learning that being agreeable and helpful felt safer than being criticised or rejected. That pattern quietly followed me into adulthood and straight into my business.
It was crippling.
I began to see how deeply I had been wired to
• keep everyone happy
• be of service to everyone
• avoid conflict
• say yes when my gut said no
This became my wake up call.
I started doing the deep work. Boundaries. Self worth. Saying no without apologising for existing. Letting people feel uncomfortable without rushing in to fix it.
It was uncomfortable. Emotional. Long overdue.
The Business Shedding
This transformation did not stay in my personal life. My business received a full energetic audit too.
I began letting go of services and clients that were no longer aligned. That felt terrifying at first because the people pleaser inside me was screaming.
But what if they need you?
What if they are disappointed?
What if you lose money?
What if you look selfish?
A harder question surfaced.
What if I lost myself?
Alignment slowly became more important than obligation. Joy became more important than resentment. Purpose became more important than pressure.
Over time, my business started to feel lighter, clearer, and far more aligned.
Why The Snake Year Felt So Long
Shedding takes time.
When a snake sheds its skin, it does not rush. It rubs against rough surfaces. It wriggles. It pushes. It gets uncomfortable before the old skin finally slips away.
If last year felt slow, frustrating, emotional, or like nothing was moving fast enough, you were not stuck. You were shedding.
The path is now clear, because the energy has changed.
